Since a few days after I installed Windows, my Event Viewer is filled with these Schannel errors.
The following fatal alert was received:40

What does this mean? Can I just ignore it?
It seems to have started after I installed Nvidia GeForce Experience, but I'm not sure.

"Event ID: 36887 Schannel is triggered by websites where the URL was upgraded to https but the locally stored link is still http. I have numerous old bookmarks to forums that have upgraded, but my bookmarks are still http. Some trigger the event 36887, but the majority don't."

Have you tried editing the bookmarks or deleting and re-adding them? The quote suggests it's the url in the bookmark, not where you store them.

I recently started to see SAME (Schannel) event logs with id 36887 including fatal error 40 and sometimes 70, WHEN i login to Skype (which uses IE components) and visit some HTTPS sites with İnternet Explorer 8.
I beleive it's kinda incompatibility between SOME sites and their Cipher Suites, but not every HTTPS website generates this. I ended up disabling this irritating error log for Schannel through registry.
Can someone update this thread if you found a working fix?
I'm using Windows 7 SP1 x64 without latest patches.
