I write many essays and also take a lot of notes. What do you think will help be better? microsoft word or Iwork pages 2? Can someone who has experience with both tell me about them?
-
microsoft word. its more commonly used, so you can be sure that you can leech notes off a buddy in case his/her notes are better.
-
Couldn't he/she send the notes to me through microsoft word, and I open it with pages 2?
Also, if I don't have microsoft word on a mac and someone sends me a microsoft word document, could I not open it? I am curious since I have never used macs before. -
The file format should be compatable.
If you're low on money, don't forget to check out Open Office. It can open Microsoft Office files. -
Why can't you make pages 2 documents into .doc formats. That would be easier so I can open files from PC.
-
Word.
when you've graduated and are wasting your life away rotting in a cube somewhere, it's what you'll be using so you might as well get used to it now. also, being able to put "proficient in Microsoft Word" looks better on your resume than "proficient in some-obscure-word-processing-app-that-noone-has-ever-heard-of". -
OpenOffice.Org anyone?
-
I only use word. Like Cori said it is probably better to use a popluar program because when you get into the "real" world you will want to know how to do everything in word. It will save you some time if you already have that experience.

I actually prefer open office. Its more comfortable to me. Same type of thing as MS Word though. And best of all, its free.

What format that i have on my PC can't I open with a mac if I get one. In movies, I have .avi, .mpg, .mpeg4, .bin. I open these files with GOM player and VLC media player. Could I open those and play them on the new mac if I just transferred them? Also, I have some ISO files that I have to open with DAEMON TOOLS or ALCOHOL 120. How would I extract these image files on the mac?
Better, does anyone know a website for a total Mac tutorial. I am a windows user but want to switch to macs because people say they are awesome. -
I'll just say that if you ever lose a job because you're not good enough at Word, it's probably time to find a different career in any case. "It's used in the real world" isn't really a very relevant reason for choosing word processing software...
For notes, I typically use a combination of paper, Windows notepad and TeX. The latter looks much nicer (and allows me to concentrate much better than Word or OOffice does, because I don't have to worry about formatting). The two former are just so convenient for scribbling quick notes -
All common file formats can be open on any operating system, you just need to find the software. Try using google.
