    Hi everyone ,

first of all,i'm very sorry if i'm using the wrong thread ...

I'm having some serious troubles with my notebookscreen.
    see pics :
    startup
    [IMG]
    after 5min
    [IMG]
    after 10min
    [img=http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/3519/imgp3354x.th.jpg]

This scenario repeats itself every time at start up !
after 30min the right side of the screen is pitch black.

I'm 100 % sure there is no Hardware failure because on 1 aucation i could enter bios en the image was normal and a 2nd time I could start windows up butt there were alot of system failures ...
Dvi and HDMI ports don't work either !

I want to set my notebook back to factury settings , but that's very hard with no image !

    Wow, that's creepy as hell.

I'd suggest a reformat, but if you ask me, it's hardware failure.

That screen glitch can not be caused by software, unless it's some horrible prank.

If you want to make sure, you could always plug your laptop into an external monitor.

Have you tried the Fn and one of the F keys usualy turns the external video on/off on most notebooks.

If you just want to reformat - you could do so via a second computer and an exernal enclosure if you remove the HDD...

There may be a possebility to use a bootable CD/Floppy (via USB) to format it...

But if you put a Windows Disc inside it won't load the OS but will load files from the disc.
And come to think of it, that works without any graphics drivers...
(graphics drivers as in NVidia drivers for NVidia card, Intel drivers for Intel card)

The fact that the BIOS runs fine with a good picture does seem to exclude hardware failure to some extent.

It also does not show the NVidia typical failure - still, what is your hrdware?

If the initial bootup/bios screen is like the picture in post 1, then it`s must be a hardware faulty as no software is loaded at that point.

so lets say it maybe is a hardware failure ...
then it has to be a bad connection to the screen ?

Since you say you cannot get an output to an external monitor , it is more likely to be a video card fault , than a lcd display fault.

What GPU do you have in your notebook.

Do you have a warranty on it? If so, you could probably get them to replace the GPU and LCD screen.

If not, do you have an external monitor of any sort you can try, to see if the picture on that is fine? If it is, then it's probably a screen failure, but if it's still bad, then probably GPU failure.

ah - so you get that screen onthe BIOS too?

Then it sounds like hardware failure - I had the impression you got a "good BIOS".

This card is amongst the affected NVidia cards - a material flaw/design flaw.

In most cases you have to replace the whole motherboard as the card is soldered to the motherboard...

If it is the NVidia, your manufacturer may offer extended warranty for it...

i've read that the 8400m GS is famous for it's breakdowns ...
so it is probably that the graphic card will be defect...

my notebook is approximately worth 300 euro,so i guess a new graphic card and motherboard would cost more than that :-(

I'd still recommend you try to follow up on the extended warranty some companies offered as a result of the faulty NVidia.
