    Hi,

Recently I've did some tweaks to my windows 7 Home premium, one of which is to un-index my OS Drive to improve performance..

After doing the tweaks from this website The Windows 7 Optimization Guide | The SSD Review

I found out that my search feature was dead. Instead of pressing orb then type cal+enter to start calculator, I've to manually click now.

Even searching for files or program doesn't work. I'm wasting alot of time clicking and clicking to get my stuffs :(

One thing i tried was to reindex my C drive. After doing that, it still doesn't work.

    Anyone can help?

    Thank you So Much!!

hin hinkey+R, type services.msc, hit enter. find windows search and make sure it isn't disabled, set to manual or automatic, both should work

Weird, I always un-tick that indexing option and never have a problem finding programs in the search (start menu).

Type Win+Page Break to open system property and on the lower left there should be an option call "Performance Information and Tools". Click on the option and on the same location but higher left you should see "Adjust indexing option". Click on that and a new window will pop up and make sure you see "start menu" as one of the Indexed. If not, click on the "modify" button and add the start menu manually. You may have to "rebuild" the indexing by going into the "advance" button.

Sigh... See, the glorious guide you "followed" even had this warning, in big, bold letters:

    " READER ALERT!!!!

There is no need to alter Windows 7 whatsoever. Doing so may cause your operating system to act strangely or even crash without notice.
    ",

    as well as

" I would advise one to NOT follow this article unless you have the background and knowledge to do so."

Windows Search worked just fine before you started, for no good reason, fiddling with your OS. Now you broke it. End of Story.

I have also nearly disabled every junk of my OS. I only have Windows Search in add/remove program enabled and it work as it should. I even have Windows Search disabled in services(.msc)

found the solution.. problem lies with the regristry. deleting this key solved it.

    1. Go to start and type regedit.
    2. Select regedit from the programs list.
    3. Locate the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\{EF87B4CB-F2CE-4785-8658-4CA6C63E38C6}\TopViews\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}
    4. If the key exists try deleting it.
    5. Close the registry editor.
    6. Restart computer or end task explorer.exe and start back :D
