I'm having an issue with Windows 7 SearchIndexer.exe. I re-installed Windows 7 on my Latitude E6400 and for some reason SearchIndexer.exe will not stop. It keeps using 10-20% CPU Usage.
I know how to disable it, but I would like to have the feature enabled if possible. I tried re-installing Windows 7 three times already with the same results. It doesn't start becoming a problem until I install programs like Adobe Web Collection or Visual Studio 2008. It takes forever to index and so far it has only done 280 files. How is that possible? I even left my laptop on over night, turning "sleep" off.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. I tried asking Dell latitude folk here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=441718&page=4 but couldn't find a solution.

Control Panel > Sys & Maint > Indexing Options.
Does it say "Indexing complete."?
If not, then is the number of indexed files changing?
EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed, I'm using Vista and you're using 7... but it's probably pretty similar. -
It sometimes says complete and it sometimes says it's indexing. The amount indexed is only 281 and very rarely will change. I don't really know how to fix this issue other than disabling Windows Search. I tried rebuilding the index, but it just does the same thing. Do I need to leave my computer on for a week just to index Offline files and internet explorer stuff (defaults)?
SearchIndexer.exe taking long time
