I'm looking to securely wipe an 250GB external hard drive I have. When I owned a Macbook, OSX had a built in program that would write data to a drive via algorithms (up to 32 passes I believe). Any suggestions for a Windows alternative to this? Preferably free please.

I'm currently using Eraser on the drive, but for the likes of me, I can't actually tell if it's doing anything. I performed a quick format and then using Eraser, selected to clean unused data using the one-pass method.

Set up Eraser to do the Dod pass, that works...and while it is doing its job you'll definitely know it.

Thanks Greg, I'll give it a shot first thing tomorrow morning.
