ok heres the thing i want my new laptop to be protected, WELL!!! Im looking for recommendations for firewalls, antivirus, spyware protection... and so on. So far it seems that Bit defender and zonealarm look good, also ad-aware and spy sweeper also. Also would i be better with lets say the zone alarm suite or going individual.

I suggest AVG Anti-Virus (free edition) it's an excellent anti-virus scanner, it was rated very highly by The ScreenSavers when they were still around, Grisoft only improved on it since than.

Firewall should be fine if you have a router, most routers come with a hardware firewall nowadays, if you don't have a router than ZoneAlarm is a great firewall. Ad-Aware is great to scan for spyware, I recommend that one.

Use Firefox as your browser as well, Do not use IE, by using firefox you significantlly reduce the need to use the Ad-aware that often.

The free versions of what I have recommended are great, theres no real need for Pro versions, unless you need the extra features/flexibility they provide.

    Cheers.

For antivirus and antispyware information, you can read http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=61129
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=62240

Assuming you want free software, the best free AV programs are either AVG, Avast, or Avira's AntiVir. You should use at least one of these products, and could also use various online scanners as well. For free antispyware products, the most commonly used are either Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot SD, Windows Defender, or Hijackthis. Any/all of these are good, and work best if multiple of them are used together. For free firewalls, there's always Zone Alarm, Sunbelt Kerio, or other less common programs like the Comodo firewall.

As far as paid programs, the best AV programs are Kaspersky, NOD32, and BitDefender. The best antispyware are Spy Sweeper and CounterSpy, and the best firewalls are Zone Alarm, and depending on preference pretty much any other professional firewall, such as Sunbelt Kerio, Outpost, etc...
