I'm really not too sure where this thread should go, so I just put it here because it covers software and such.

Well, I was trying to make my laptop faster, and I accidentally turned off pretty much EVERY startup program. I restarted the computer, and I can't get onto my account. See, I have a fingerprint security, and it worked to get into BIOS. However, by the time I have to put in my username and my fingerprint, the scanner does not work. I suspect that the no startup thing takes effect by then, so the fingerprint scanner shuts off. Basically, I can't get on my laptop anymore, and (I'm obviously using a different computer to write this). Any help?

Well, would using an external fingerprint scanner work?

    No.

Can't you bypass your fingerprint scanner with a password?
You may want to try safe mode - and see if you can disable the fingerprint log on from there.

You are going to have to safe mode that piece, if it will even allow you.

Otherwise you are going to need help from whoever wrote your fingerprint reader software.

Errr... then, as a question, how do i put on safe mode? Is it an option on BIOS or something?

I think it was F8 which you need to hit regularly after pressing the on switch to get a menu that offers different startup otpions.

In my case even with the finger print software not running i can type my windows password like everyone else does to get in which should be the same in your case as well. Doubt the fingerprint software is designed in a way that when the hardware gets damaged it instantly means you need a format.

Well, I CAN type in my password, but I need both my password and my fingerprint to log in.

This is why you don't do it...

What about safe mode? there is an administrator account that's a step above...

    That may help.

Thats odd, in my case password alone does the job. Safe mode should do the trick though, if its anything like mine then the software is completely disabled when you try to access windows from safe mode so you can log into your account with your password, save mode should let you access windows with your password alone and then you can reenable the startup software.

I know Upek Protector Suite 5.8.2 gives you the option fingrprint only (and bypass with password) or both.

Yea, my point exactly, it still has a feature to bypass the fingerprint check, or else if for whatever reason the hardware didnt work the "average" user would be in trouble. But hopefully the changes this program make wont work in safe mode so this "tactic" will work.
