    Hi guys,

I am planning to sell my old alptop on ebay, so I have a question.
I bought my sony vaio fz and it cane with slow-booting pre-loaded OS, so I bought a fresh copy of vista home premium from bestbuy and installed into my lappy. Although I could boost up my prize on ebay by mentioning that I will give the original vista CD + restore disk, I don’t know if I have right to give the original CD to someone else.
Since MS might have my name as the owner of this activation would that be an issue if the thirdparty buyer broke somekind of a piracy policy with this laptop. will that trouble me?

Or is it just safe to use the Original restore CD and put the whole lappy back to factory setting before shipping.

    Thanks a lot,

You didn't need to buy a new copy... you could have clean installed with the key on your laptop.
My suggestion, sell the laptop with the OEM copy that it came with.
Sell the retail copy you bought separately in another sale.

The copy of Vista you bought came with a license agreement. I suggest you read it.

If it's the normal retail version, it should allow for one sale or transfer of the license. In that case, you'd be perfectly fine transferring/selling it with the computer... but you might be able to fetch more money by selling it separately.

Exactly. The Vista disk that you buy with Home Prem, Business, Home Basic are all the same. In fact, you can even download it for free(legally). If youyr laptop came with an "Upgrade Now" CD, its the same as that too. What you pay for is the CD-Key and the CD key determines what version you will get.

Ähm.... there have been extensive threads about this before.

Bottomline is that a download of Vista would only legal if youpplied by a legal "supplier" - aka Microsoft, and as Microsoft offers no such download link (that I am at the moment aware of) there is no legal download.

Even if you do actually pay for the license and not the disc with a copy of the OS.
