Obviously the first Vista Service pack will patch up some of the bumps that people have encountered with the new OS. Alot of people are staying away from Vista until the new service pack is released. My question is if you buy a computer with Vista in the next few months, is it free to get the service pack or does it cost extra money even for those already running Vista. Thanks.

... Service packs are always free... Plus, if it doesn't come with the SP, which, it most likely won't, you simply download it via Windows Update. I wouldn't count on a SP coming out for while though...

Actually Microsoft said service pack 1 would be available within months. Of course they said that to get people to buy Vista but I still think we'll see the first one before 2007 ends; Probably Q2 if were lucky.

Alright, thanks alot for the replies.
Generally speaking, the service packs just fix glitches and incompatabilities and such, correct? -
Usually a lot of security fixes as well. They can be fairly substantial improvements sometimes.

This was taken from Paul Thurott's Super site. I believe that SP1 will be released at the end of the year before 2008.

Correct. Hopefully they'll be fixing a lot of the incapabilities that Vista has now with XP software... Also, it seems to take forever to put Vista into standby mode... annoying...
In other words... "We're going to do what we should have done before releasing Vista." -
Awesome, thanks. All of your help and info has been greatly appreciated.
