I just installed service pack 1. I had no noticeable problems before I did this. Now it's gone to hell. Half my programs won't start.
Here are some examples:
Catalyst Control Center pops up saying "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown." and won't start.

Hi,
what if you uninstall SP1?
Also, how did you install the service pack?
Michael -
Windows update did the service pack install. How would I go about uninstalling it?
-
Control Panel -> Programs etc. You may need to check the "show updates" box.
The other option is to restore the system to the state before installing the SP (assuming you have not disabled the system restore function)

AHA! In the various places I pleaded for help I have managed to find out the problem. The amBx ambient lighting I have messes stuff up with SP1 installed, so I guess I'm sticking with 7600 build for the moment. Thanks anyways!
-
I'd rather ditch that "ambient light".

I love the amBx :'(

rav64cpl is the realtek audio manager, ventrilio is also audio related.
remove all of the audio device drivers, reboot, and then reinstall your audio device drivers.
make damned sure you're using up to date drivers for all of your devices.
wuapp.exe errors/crashes during a service pack install are usually a sign of windows activation and/or licensing problems. -

so its fixed now? -
Well it's not really fixed as such. I just rolled back the service pack so windows is back to 7600build and it's all working again. I'll get the service pack when amBx update their drivers.
-
Do you really think, there will be any updates, especially since the thing is flagged as "Legacy"?

Have you tried at the 'new' amBX company? AmBX UK LTD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yo guys,
I had just installed SP1 and had the random app crashing too, was totally stumped until a friend showed me this. I looked into it a bit further, there's a whole thread about it on the amBX forums:
amBX forum - Login
In short, if you disable amBXFxGen.exe from running on startup, you can use SP1 without an issue - the downside is you will have no effects for games/videos. However, apps like Illuminate still work.
Easiest way to disable it is to use Sysinternals Autoruns ( Autoruns for Windows) - untick "amBX System Tray Application" under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and try again.
They also mentioned completely uninstalling/reinstalling the amBX suite and not updating to the latest profile works... The amBXFxGen solution worked for me.
Good luck! -
And wouldn't a better title for this thread be
