    Hi,

Have a vostro 1720 w/ T9550, 4GB RAM, windows vista ultimate. Pretty shortly after i got it, i noticed on one reboot that some desktop file icons were missing so i ran a virus scan and found 5 viruses - 4 associated with java and 1 w/ macromedia flash neither of which i had installed (but i guess some basic files come with the install and since they aren't patched they aren't protected against the viruses - at elast that is my understanding of it). So eventually i managed t oinstall the updated versions of the flash players and remove the viruses. But during one of the restarts before the viruses were gone, i booted my computer and got an error message saying that the desktop couldn't be loaded and i didn't have access or something and what was loaded up looked like it was in safe mode sort of graphics. Even after the viruses were gone it has done this maybe 2 more times.

A newer problem which just occurred was getting a blue screen and having my comp shut down - it caused alot of noise and restarted the computer. Posted a ss of the error message that i got once it rebooted.

So should i be worried? Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

the "safe mode" look sounds like the desktop windows manager didn't load and your blue screen (exception not handled) usually, but is not always a driver issue.

Since the first one was video related, have you hit windows update and looked at recommended for drivers (not a critical update, so you have to look at the recommended)

Did you check the Dell website?

Short of that, post your dump log rather than the error message and someone will analyze it

How would i get the dumplog file?

The bluescreen actuallyh happened again yesterday - both times it occured when i unplugged my usb mouse. Once was while watching a movie and once was just after i had clicked shutdown.

I would just perform a re-installation, multiple virus infection might be hard to recover sometimes.

    cheers ...
