I wanted to connect my laptop to my desktop so I can transfer files from the laptop to desktop and can format the laptop without losing the files.
I used this guide http://jamus.dannz.net.nz/technology/technology.htm#networking and Eset Smart Security prompted me whether to allow files and other stuff sharing on both of the PCs after the connection.
Then I set a disk partition on my laptop to be visible over network and allowed File and Printer sharing, but I can't figure where to look for the drive.
I tried in My Network Places from the desktop and saw my lappie there, but when I open it all I see are Shared Music, Shared Pictures and the Shared Video folder, nothing else... How do I do it? :/
I connected them with a network cable (both of them support gigabit ethernet but they connected at 100mbps). I'm running Win XP w/ SP3 on both machines, administrator privileges on both computers.

Have you shared the folder/partition, from here (Right click - Properties) -

Yes, I have

Try creating a network drive.
Run cmd on your desktop and type:
net use * \\[laptop name here]\[shared folder name here] -
Doesn't work...
I can see the lappie on my desktop, but not the other way round. I ran network setup wizards on both PCs several times to no avail... -
It sounds like a similar problem to one I had... do you have them in a private/home network location? (see link... Vista only)

Nope, I'm on XP...
I think I'll just copy the files over my iPod, it'll be quicker then setting up this connection
