I have been reading up on the windows file sharing but I still can't access the files I need on my xp desktop (media center 2005 which is professional with addons...), on my vista laptop (premium 32bit).
I have allowed access to the individual folders, but overall I can't find anything, getting access denied left and right.
For example, when trying to create a network place in xp, adding the network location ("//192.168.0.xx") I get a "windows requires a share to publish to. Please try another location.
Anyways, I did a search on NBR so let me try those sync programs like syncplicity that everyone was recommending. I found this 4shared as well which is up to 5gb...
Any advice is welcomed

rapidshare seems to be unlimited, same with qnext
-
Well...
You can't just add a computer. You need to actually add a location on that computer.
My torrentbox:
\\192.168.1.151\netdisk$\downloads
My media server:
\\192.168.1.200\Movies
Have you created a share on the other computer and set the permissions so that network users have the right to read/write/modify? -

Got my:
documents
music...
etc..
Now lets see if Vista picks it up -
The vista machine can't pick up the files, what should I try?
-
This is the guide I used when Vista first came out to get everything working right:
http://www.home-network-help.com/simple-file-sharing.html
It seems a little easier now, I don't have to go through this, but Vista is definitely more tricky to setup file sharing on. -
perhaps Ethernet from xp to vista is easier?
or should i stick with wireless?
thanks -
I'm not too big on firewire networking. Wireless and ethernet are really the same protocol so... it doesn't matter which of those you use.

argh, went with a msc drive media player transfer
-
The cisco network purchased network magic did the trick, much simpler.

EDIT: all of these options too slow for 15GB file transfers.... guess I have to buy a decent jump/external drive -
A flash based USB device will be slower than a 100mbps network transfer.
So make sure it's an actual hard drive. -

My router limits my 100mbit/s connection to around 60mbit/s effective bandwidth. -
Well... you're right. But that's generally true with flash drives. I considered clarifying before you even posted but meh, I'm not perfect
