i downloaded the beta and i got a key...
    BUT
i created recovery discs of my computer on Vista but I lost them, so now i cant create any more cuz of some you're only allowed to create one set thing, and i don't know if i can still reformat my comp if i install the beta, because i dont know whether the recovery manager still works in the windows 7 beta

can anyone advise me on this?

This is a beta - it's not recommended to replace your Vista installation with a test OS. If you want to try it out, either get another hard drive and install on that, or shrink one of your existing partitions and install 7 on the new partition.

Couldn't you just recreate another set of recovery disc?

There are other ways to reinstall Vista, but you need a disk of some type.

Unless you are completely confident that you can get back to Vista the way you had it, and I mean completely condifent, I don't think that you should install the beta.

You can always back up Vista with Acronis TrueImage, then install 7.

If you really want to try out 7, just dual boot Vista and Win7. It's easy and unless you intentionally try to screw up, it won't mess with your Vista installation. Just shrink the Vista partition and then run the Windows 7 set up and install in the unallocated space.

For a more detailed guide, just google "dual boot Vista Windows 7" or something.

If you are interested in trying Windows 7, have you considered the virtual route? I made a mini-guide here the other day that walks you through setting up Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to run with Windows 7. It's a good way to try it out without messing with any critical parts of your machine.

Keep in mind that you might not get the full experience if Windows 7 determines the virtual machine's performance is limited, as it may disable Aero. I haven't tried it on Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, only on VMWare Workstation, so your mileage will vary.
