if I have free versions of Adware, Avast, Zonealarm. and CCleaner. I do daily scans and don't go on sites that are obviously filled with junk.. Is there anything else that I should need?

wow that should be more than enough. I'm behind a router and all i use is Ad-aware and Antvir. I scan maybe once every week or 2 and all i find are the occasional tracking cookies. you must have one of the safest notebooks on this site!

Speaking of tracking cookies....are these anything to be concerned about? I have Spybot set to run once a day and it always comes up with anywhere betwen 25 and 85 "problems" that it fixes. Examples are advertising.com, hitbox, and fastclick tracking cookies. What exactly are these and why do they keep coming back?

    Thanks

they are cookies in IE cache, and nothing really to worry about.

I don't do any of that. I run spybot once a month and I'm behind a firewall. I don't have any form of virus protection and I frequently go to sites filled with junk. I have firefox installed, but I use IE because it has a fullscreen mode, smaller buttons, and a user interface setup that I prefer which is unachievable in firefox. I'm probably the most unsafe user ever. I don't even back up data.

You might want to add SpywareBlaster to that list. It keeps those cookies and spyware from installing in the first place while Adware is more of a cleaner.
