I bought a floor model HP DV4000 and I'm wondering if I should do a fresh reboot of Windows (XP Pro).

Any particular reason in favor of or against? I guess I might as well but is it worth the time?

In my opinion, I would. I normally always suggest to reformat if you have a new computer because of the junkware. If it was on the floor, it might be a bit more cleaned up, but it couldn't hurt to do a reformat.
