This is not a straight bashing vista thread, but the issue I am experiencing with Vista has gone beyond the point of my patience. The issue of Vista not shutting down at all, random Freezes, and programs (not limited to FireFox, I already had a thread on this issue, and got flamed for it, please it is not LIMITED to FF) not terminating correctly. My question is should I give Vista another chance through Dell Recover partition? I have had my was "New" Dell desktop crashing often, but a recovery to the factory state few weeks after purchase seems to solve all the problems even though the factory state should be the same as the one originally installed on the PC. Is there anything in Vista that is in fact an advantage/keeper that i should not have give up on it before SP1, which brings me to my second question how much improvement is projected in SP1?

If you were to reinstall...get a Vista AnyTime Upgrade DVD and install Vista as a fresh OS using your key. No Dell bloatware.
Personally, I'd say wait for a month or two after SP1 and see how things are going. I'm not moving back at least until then. -
I would consider clean installing to Vista but, I lost several game keys
I don't really like all of Vistas Flashy new features though. -
@Greg where can I get the Vista AnyTime Upgrade DVD , and would it work with my Dell OEM key? Also, my university sells, Vista Ultimate Upgrade disk, will it function the same as well?
@Thomas,
I agree, I don't care for the new features, I used non of them really, it is just the promised performance boost was never really there. Right now I am holding back kind off, just to see if the SP1 could finally unleash the potential that had MS bragged about throughout their Vista Ads during the initial launch. -

If you basically like Vista, then try again later, yeah. (And do a clean install) If you're happy with XP, go back to that and stick with it until they force you to upgrade.

I second clean install. Perhaps some dell bloatwares are causing problems.
It seems that most Vista problems are caused by drivers and third-party softwares -
I agree totally, if you liked Vista try it again. Wait a few months after the SP1 release for them to iron out any potential bugs. I think a lot of problems are caused by 3rd party junk and IMO, for Vista to run smoothly, it sure helps to have at least 2GB's of ram.

The AnyTime DVD should work with your key, but I'm not sure about the university disk. I don't know if the VU disk ONLY has the install routines for Ultimate or all of them.
-
But, fortunately, the more I discover about Vista, the more I like it. I've worked all my 'kinks' out one way or another. But yes, SP1 is going to be HUGE.
-
Thanks so much everyone for your generous reply, however, I have decided to give XP a try a it seems XP run so much more fluently in general. I will get the upgrade disk from my university, if SP1 does really help make Vista the better OS in the end. Thanks again everyone!

I get back on my XP desktop and hate it....it's too old to upgrade. Get what's cheaper and does the trick for you.

I'm telling him to use XP if it's cheaper and at the same time know that the 'Zoid' hates it....lol
-
Kidoki, i just wanted to know if you were telling him to get a cheap xp system with like 256mb ram and a 1gb hd and wait 'till sp1 for vista.

After a bit of search on the web, I came across this article and apparently Vista SP1 is going to be another disappointment. What do you guys think?
-
I think that researcher and pcworld are full of it. Many people here who tested out vista beta say it's faster and better than the original. And many of those people hate vista so there is no favorable bias.
Should I give Vista another try? With SP1?
