I have an ASUS 1015T netbook from 2010. It has Windows 7 Starter edition.

I understand that Microsoft will be offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 soon. I am wondering if the netbooks I own would be good candidates.

My main concern is drivers: The 1015T model uses the dual AMD V105 processor, and an ATI Radeon HD 4250 video card. I have upgraded the RAM to 4 GB.

The 1015T has an HDMI-out port, which is very handy. So I would need the video card drivers in order to function properly in Windows 10.

Would I be able to get this netbook properly configured in Windows 10?

The other question is - is it worth doing? My desktop computers are on Windows 7, and I am worried about network compatibility, which is great right now.

The way I see it in terms of pluses and minuses are:

+ Windows 10 will offer extended support beyond 2020 (the main reason I am considering this, in fact)

+Windows 10 may be faster than Windows 7 starter edition (is it true that starter edition is sluggish?)

+Windows 10 will allow me to use all 4GB of RAM, instead of the 2 that starter edition does

+Presumably, Windows 10 is an improvement in a mobile device over Windows 7 starter edition

    The minuses are:

-compatibility with my netbook video card drivers is unknown to me

-it will take time to upgrade a 5400 RPM netbook HDD

-I will be performing a clean install and have to reinstall all the software (lost productivity)

-There is no going back if there are problems with Windows 10

This should tell what is all needed. Netbook aren't built to handle full blown O/S that is why they are the basic basic O/S on them. If they could handle more O/S then it would be Home/Preminum or Pro anytime you get a netbook with "Starter" that tells all there is to know.

Well, I doubt Windows 10 will be that much more intensive than 7 starter, but in any case, don't expect better performance, in the end it'll either be the same or worse. You cna try it, but I'd keep a ackup image in case you want to revert to 7 starter.
