My new laptop comes with 60 trial MS Office 2007. I have just installed the 2000 version from my own CD. Is it better to uninstall/remove the trial 2007 one, since it can cause conflict, and besides it will be invalid after 60 days anyway?

Yeah I nuked it to save the space since I installed my own copy of 03. It's taking up a ton of space more than anything, that's why I'd uninstall.

Yes, you might as well uninstall Office 2007 if you don't plan on using it. Any reason you're still sticking with Office 2000 (other than cost :p)?

    Thank you all!

    Thanks, I'm downloading that now.

It is neat and does all the jobs that I need. There are so many buttons on the 2007 Excel that I don't know where to find what I want. There are just so many extra things that gives more inconvenience than help  What do you like about 2007 that is not in the 2000?

Btw, what about the trial Norton antivirus? Should I also uninstall it since it will also expire? Reason is I want to install AVG, but it says it's not good to have more than one antivirus installed, so I'm waiting for the Norton to expire.

What version of Norton is it? If it's anything before 2009 I'd just ditch it. If it's 2009, I'd at least try it out. They've really turned that product around and it's very trim and less bloated now.

I can't find out what version it is. It just says "Norton Internet Security".

Look for the Norton icon in your system tray and click it: If the window looks like this:

    Then you have 2009. :)

It took me a little bit, but after using Office 2007 for a little bit, I've found that I can more quickly find what I need using 07 than with the older versions of Office. The features that I need are easily accessible on the ribbon. Of course, not everybody may like the new layout (I didn't at first), but now I love it.

If it's Norton 2009, keep, otherwise look here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=190538

Crash, thanks for the link. I'm downloading the Comodo firewall now. It also offers the option of including Comodo AntiVirus (free). Since I'm going to have the AVG antivirus, should I skip the Comodo antivirus, as I read that having more than one antivirus software is not good?

Indeed, skip the Comodo antivirus. Having more than one antivirus can cause conflicts. Make sure that Comodo turns off Windows Firewall after installation as firewalls can conflict with each other as well.

How does the Comodo antivirus compare to AVG? Any idea/experience? (what about using Comodo for both firewall and antivirus and skip AVG?)

According to PCMag, Comodo's antivirus/antispyware protection isn't quite there yet. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2333803,00.asp

I'd go with AVG for Antivirus :)

Get all of the trial software off of there ASAP!
Otherwise your wife might find something she likes and purchase it.
I bought my wife a laptop for Christmas, at her request, and came with the Office trial on it. I was going to tell her that I would buy the "student and home" edition on sale somewhere and she told me she went ahead and paid for the trial that was on her computer. She didn't remember what she paid for it, and I decided I was better off if I didn't know.

I just downloaded AVG. According to the web site, the free version is also a "trial", only for 30 days? I seem to remember there is a way to use it beyond 30 days as that's the case with my other computer, but I don't remember how it's done :( Any hints? I remember it's very simple.
