I am curious, on my acer I'd do the updates through microsoft, but I also don't want to do things that might ruin my config (and its working so nice now)
Any advice would be good![]()

First, this Q should have been posted in the windows OS forum...
Anyways, the updates through M$ are always recommended.. you can set it to different options, like automatically download n install or just notify you of available updates, and you can then chose what to install and what to hide away (which is what I do)... -

i do both on my hp's. windows updates are a requirement nowadays and everyone should do them.
vendor updates are good to get small bugs fixed, or system specific features updated etc. -
Thanks for the advice, they can move it but its really related to my new XPS

But Windows is not just specific for Dell XPS
Windows updates are done all over..
Further, as for Dell update' I don't think its automatic.. but u can of course go to your model' driver n downloads section and take in whatever u want that applies to your system..
Though, the dell update' are in no way related to Windows updates... and as the post above says, its *important* you do the windows update regularly... Cheers. -
True sorry, but i just dont want anyone to read this thinking im talking generally about laptops, and about my specific one that's all but I hear you.
Anyway its moved now, I got my advice which is great, thanks a lot -
Windows updates, as it pertains to the OS. Security fixes, hotfixes, updates, etc. Dell updates aren't really needed.

I use Microsoft/Windows Update and go directly to the vendors for driver updates. The only updates I would ever get from the manufacturer would be BIOS updates.
Should I use windows update, or just dells update.
