Supposedly an upgrade version will only be $50.
I just ordered a studio 1555 with vista 64 on it.
I personally love Vista and find nothing wrong with it. fantastic OS imo.
So I'm not concerned with extra features, but performance.
Is there a sizeable performance difference or should I leave well enough alone?

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
If the rumor is try, I'd say go for it.
-
If you want to, I'd say go for it..........I'd wait a while after it's out though (if possible) so reviews can be made, potential flaws can be found etc.
-
I think most flaws are already getting ironed out
I'm running it as main OS since RC1 and installing the build 7201 in a couple of minutes. If the upgrade isn't too costly i'll do it right away. Loving Win7 so far!! Haven't had a single issue either and i'm dealing with quite a lot of peripheral devices and i'm running 64bit
-
WEll what is the performance difference?
-
Win7 is a bit lighter on the resources it seems but not really a huge difference for me, Vista 64 was really fast on my laptop too, with only minor tweaking. I just love the new taskbar and things like Aero peek in Win7
The overall feel is snappier though like mentioned in other threads too. Your programs and stuff won't magically perform much better but the OS itself is just that bit faster. -
what are the minor tweaks needed to improve vista 64 speed. I ask because I am just now starting to use that os and so far I find it terribly slow.
-
Same here, please do share on the tweaks to improve Vista 64bit performance.

I know a lot of people don't like "All in one" type maint. programs and have even had major problems with them, but.........................I can't say enough good about Vista Manager. There is way too much to go into here, but it's fully functional for 15 days.
I've used it for almost a year without any trouble at all. My Vista 64bit OS is clean, trouble free, and quicker with Vista Manager than without.
Anyway, IMO, it's worth a look.
And no, I am not in any way affiliated with that program. I work for the Navy. -
win 7 is a great buy but vista 64 can be sped up
-
How much is the Upgrade cost from Vista 64bit to Windows 7?
-
-
I believe going from Vista Business to Windows 7 Pro is $99, if the rumors are to be believed at least.
What I'm curious about is whether you can upgrade Vista Business to Windows 7 Home for $50...really don't want to spend $100 lol -
I love it, def going to upgrade once it comes out in Oct.
-
Windows 7 will be supported for years while Vista support will fade away in 2 or 3 years.
-
Is it just BB charing this amount for their "Geek" service to order and install it, or is it everyone.
-
willstilson and htwingnut, here is a link you might find interesting if you haven't already been there.
-
I prefer Windows 7 over Vista. Vista was too buggy and Windows 7 runs faster than Vista did. I think there is a considerable speed/performance increase in Windows 7.
-
I have read in some forums that if you buy pc with windows vista installed after june 26th then you would get a free upgrade to windows7 when it comes out in october..
Can anyone confirm on this?
Thanks -
Did you check in the Windows 7-specific subforum? There are at least several threads in there that hash this point out in nauseating detail.
-
yeah, as Shyster said, the Windows 7 sub-forum has lots of threads on the subject... like this one.
-
Any chance Microsoft will allow people who have the RC version installed to "activate" it with a legal full license without needing to start with a clean slate?
I can see MS charging for a full copy for people to do this... but can see them charging just the upgrade for people who upgraded from Vista to W7-RC. It's likely detectable by the activation service, though more tricky. -
Should i buy a windows 7 upgrade when it comes out?
