i recently read ,that as you know vista 32 bit only supports up to 3.12 Gb ram.
so now i got laptop with 4GB , So should i install 64 bit vista? to get full power of 4gb rams?

and true that games/software from versions 32bit ,will run slower on 64 bit system? i have been told ,that only all thing created for 64 bit, will be running perfectly ,instead of old games, or just those designed for 32 bits.

It is absolutely false that 32-bit stuff will run slower on 64 bit.

The way I see it, unless you absolutely need 32 bit (e.g. you use a lot of really old 16-bit apps that won't run under 64 bit or your hardware is 10 years old), there's no reason not to go 64-bit.

Even at 3GB memory, I still use Vista 64-bit. It's very stable and runs majority of 32-bit programs flawlessly.

I will say stick with 64bit based OS.
You can have higher graphic power on 64bit OS.
RAM can use more than 3.5GBs. 32bit basically allow 3-3.5GB of RAM only.
Moreover, 32bit software can basically works well on 64bit OS too. Just some of them can't but majority can.
I have turned my old desktop(3GB ram) to 64bit OS and my laptop(4gb ram) too.
As for benchmarking, I have higher benchmarking on 64bit OS. Real Games Performance increased as well.

Definitely go for a 64 bit OS these days. There is no reason not to stay with 32 bit unless you are running a lot of really old apps like Mastershroom mentioned earlier.

You can run 32 bit applications on a 64 bit system, almost everything except for drivers. 32 bit drivers will not work on a 64 bit OS, and quite obviously, 64 bit will not work on 32 bit.

If you have 4GB of RAM, then definitely go for it, as a 32 bit OS will not utilise all of it. Honestly, 64 bit is the way of the future.

Unless you have access to a 64-bit OS install disk, I wouldn't necessarily spend ~$100 (OEM copy of Vista 64-bit) to upgrade. You'll have higher potential with the RAM, but unless the system in question has a dedicated video card chances are good the rest of the hardware in the system would hold you back more than an extra gig of RAM.

64-bit is the way of the future, but unless you find yourself RAM limited (which is pretty unlikely for a variety of reasons) or intend to hang onto your laptop for a couple more years then I'd put the $100 in the bank and start saving for a new laptop down the road. :)

If you have a 32Bit license getting a 64Bit disc should be qite cheap - materia cost only as you have a license.

Either your OEM or (unlikely) Microsoft will help you get it.

I'd go with a 64 bit OS. Might as well join the bandwagon. Really, there is no significant downside.

64 bit is more secure with kernel patch protection and aslr and other kernel-level security not found on 32-bit so i'd go with that, unless you have very old software that you absolutely rely on.
