Ok, so I don't know if this warrants making a new thread against the sticky'd one here, which are just any types of wallpapers at all, but I'm looking for cool ideas for Rainmeter in Windows 7.
Just post whatever desktop you're using now and any links needed to obtain a similar setup (wallpaper/gadgets etc.)![]()

I LOVE showing off my rainmeter setup. I spent a lot of time putting this together and making customizations. I also modified the Rainify skin for winamp to make it fit in even more with my rainmeter desktop.
With the exception of the battery level indicator on the lower left, every single skin has been modified. Changes range from simple font/color to full on reorganizing the appearance.
If anyone is really that interested, I can make a list of what my Rainmeter's got in it.
-
P.S. - Yes, IMO, your topic does warrant a new thread. The other one listed is more about showing off the new wallpaper than the actual desktop configuration.

mmm it's 3am, just cleared out every icon on my desktop (since ive never clicked em EVER) and i just discovered the wonderful world of rainmeter...dam this is gonna be a long night.
oh, and that is one cool desktop anseio! im currently customizing enigma v3.0, gonna see what i can come up with -
Thank you, thank you!
It's going to be a VERY long night, indeed. You can find a bunch of skins on deviantart as well. My particular setup uses skins from Enigma and Taboo Vision. My weather is from Omnimo (sp?) for the Windows 7 Phone look and my shutdown icons, on the left, are from the Dark Glass skin/theme.
Wait until you start editing the actual skins themselves. The possibilities are virtually limitless. If you look up the Disk drive and network skins from Taboo Vision, you'll see just how different mine look from the original.
So much fun to be had! -
yeppp, im moving from the severely limited windows gadgets to rainmeter, so im trying to preserve all the previous info i had available in the gadgets, while adding more!
Will need to edit/find a bunch of system info skins, would really like the whole left side of my desktop to show everything about my system -
Oh, you'll find those skins alright. hehehe

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Here is one of mine from when I last used Rainmeter. It's been a while, as you can tell from the 5:4 aspect ratio....
-
dont look to distant from windows 8 new gui.
-
I'm just using basic Gnometer right now. Slowly deciding what I want to do when i get the time.
-
Boring default enigma skin. Haven't had time to customize because of TW2
. You could say that it is eating up my time. Btw, this was posted in the desktop thread and the link to my wallpaper is in there if you are wondering. An questions or suggestions appreciated

my old vista one:

Please don't post images over 800 pixels in width. This is ridiculous trying to read the rest of the page after your images force everything so wide. Please edit your post. Thanks!
@Fishon - Thanks, as always! I just changed the slider bars in Winamp to turquoise for the time being, to see how it looks. The orange has always been a bit contrasty for my taste. -
okay i removed the non-rainmeter part
1680x1050 now

The Taboo Vision theme has skins for each CPU core. They come with histograms, but not percentages.
Rainmeter Skins - taboo_Vision by taboo_ - Customize.org
My HDD, CPU, RAM, and network skins are all from Taboo Vision, but have had a bunch of aesthetic changes.
Try making a .ini with this code:

Oh, I should clarify that the code I gave you isn't for 4 cores. It's just to show the subtle changes you can make to an otherwise visually unimpressive .ini
-
ah that's fine, i got the taboo vision to work. just wondering, what weather app are you using on the bottom right?
I tried using Taboo Vision W-WeatherFull but it will only show "N/A" after editing in my location info. any ideas what's wrong?
Code:;Please replace your location code of Weather.com below, e.g: New York is USNY0996. ;You can check it on Weather.com or Google. ; define Fahrenheit and US system = f or Celsius and Metric system = m SCALE=f dest=USSC0234
-
My weather one is quite complicated. It comes from the Omnimo 4 theme, which is designed to look like a Windows 7 phone theme and can actaully be quite fun, if you're into that look.
Browsing deviantART
You need to download/install the full theme, because the weather skin is going to reference resources in other parts of the theme. You don't, however, need to have that as THE theme. As you can see, I'm only using the one skin.
Mine is the Weather4daysFahrenheit skin. I want to share that I painstakingly worked on this baby. It's a resizable skin, so all of its measures are decimals and fractions of a prestated variable. I had to manually adjust each one in order to make the icons the right size, closer together and font/text. It was worth it, if you ask me.
Paste the following code into Notepad and save it as "Custom weather4dayFahrenheit.ini" into the Skins\WP7\Panels\Weather folder. Restart rainmeter, then launch that skin from RainBrowser.
Code:[Rainmeter] ;MouseOverAction=!execute [!RainmeterShowMeter btn][!RainmeterShowMeter size][!RainmeterShowMeter MeterClose][!RainmeterShowMeter MeterChange][!RainmeterShowMeter Logo][!RainmeterShowMeter MeterSettings][!RainmeterRedraw] ;MouseLeaveAction=!execute [!RainmeterHideMeter MeterChange][!RainmeterHideMeter btn][!RainmeterHideMeter btn1][!RainmeterHideMeter Oh, I forgot to mention (this time), that the code I gave you sets for the Segoe Script font. If you choose a different font, for which you have to manually change each item, the spacing may appear off.
-
nice, will do try that, the one windows 7 i have looks alright but there's always better!
-
Good job!
Oh, when you decide that you don't want the little pink dots (movement dots) on the Taboo Vision skins, edit the skin and place semicolons before all of the lines in the Movement Dot section at the end of each skin.
Not sure if you already know this, but after you've got them where you want them, you can right click on the skin > settings > and uncheck draggable... so that you can't accidentally reposition them. -
I'm using one of the default ones. I really need to take some time and customize it, just haven't had the chance. But yes, to quote sach7002, there is much fun to be had.
I remember back in the day when I used linux dedicatively, Conky is very similar to rainmeter and I had hours and hours of fun customizing that haha -
here's mine
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
just a bar on top to keep it easy to see. also running bb4win on w7 x64 -
ok i added mine in windows desktop but decided to move it here. Im using the original system infoe modded and merged it with wifi info and a kiddy called Jobu's winamp skin.
-
I guess nobody here has heard of thumbnails? lol. Here's mine:
I prefer simplicity and sleekness.
Edit: I forgot to write the details.
1. The entire sidebar is one I made in Photoshop since I could not find one that fit what I wanted. It was based off the Dark Glass theme sidebars but heavily modified.
2. The Recycle Bin and Uptime are straight from the Enigma theme pack, I felt like they were pretty much perfect so I did not change them at all.
3. The icon docks are also from the Dark Glass pack but modified. I made the icons myself, although it's insanely easy to make the icons so I don't really consider that much of a feat.
4. The system info is pretty much just my own creation. I based it off the system info skin in the Dark Rainmeter pack but that one was really really limited and lame, plus it had a bunch of unnecessary stuff I didn't need. I really liked the format of it though so I added the info that I wanted to have in it and kept a similar layout, so basically the whole skin sans a part of the memory coding is my own doing.
5. Oh and I make all my wallpapers.
There you go, if you hunt a little you can get similar results. I suggest you make a skin that suits your own style though, I wanted something sleek looking and simple/minimalistic so this is how I ended up with this final custom theme. I don't really see the point to having clocks and calenders and stuff on your desktop except to look cool. -
already did the "draggable" thing to most of em, i kept moving the WP7 weather app cuz it extends like 100px out of hte actual viewable app so it would move around randomly when i didn't want it to
@atobe, i really like the simplistic design you have. im going to be saving a couple of themes to switch out and will definitely be using something like that.
-
Here's mine!
Top right are graph monitors for all my CPU cores
Then below that my weather forecast/info
Below that is CAD, seperate from rainmeter.
Bottom bar shows my Recycle bun size, and an overview of CPU, RAM usage, Battery charge, and uptime. Next to that is HDD space left.
Pretty happy with the setup
FULL SIZE
Wish i could change the color of the CPU monitor graphs though -
I like the GPU config -
Loving this right now.
-
What skin is that? Is it Omnimo?
-
i think for simplicity people should post which skins when they upload a screenshot, just so we can know how to make ours look as cool as theirs
-
Ok, since I love doing this, I'll repost with descriptions. Spent some time last night changing the appearance of my network, RAM, and CPU skins. Thinking about adding in blurred backgrounds too, but I kinda like the flush look of things fully being a part of the desktop. The font I use most is Segoe Script.
1 - shutdown.ini from Dark Glass - heavily modified to remove background and other functions. I only wanted the 3 icons. The LOCK function has also been reassigned to sleep.
2 - System-PWR.ini (PWR.ini) from Enigma's Taskbar skins - unmodified.
3 - Notes.ini from Enigma Sidebar- modified to To-Do and changed color/font size and the title font.
4 - Launcher.ini from Enigma Taskbar - I no longer use the 5 different launchers that read from the Enigma user settings metadata. I've combined them all into one .ini and have direct links to the programs. Changes are fairly easy to make as all the coordinates are done using Xr and Yr (relative?) and then spacers for the categories on the left.
5 - A photo I took of a tulip bud in my friend's garden 3 springs ago.
6 - Winamp using Rainify skin - This is not part of rainmeter. I changed the color of the slider icons, positioned the player window where I wanted, then disabled its background image so that it cannot be accidentally relocated and snapped back inside the screen to where I don't what it to be.
7 - W-Clock-24.ini from Taboo Vision - changed font, size and slightly adjusted locations of HH MM and SS to look better with the new font.
8 - Week.ini from Enigma Taskbar Combos Date + Week. - Modified for Font, size, and alignment.
9 - ReaderGcal.ini from Enigma Sidebar Reader - Slight changes to the way the date is displayed and I think I removed one occurence and made it a shorter skin. Also changed title font/size.
10 - ReaderGmail.ini from Enigma Sidebar Reader - Changed title font/size and reduced from 5 or so emails down to only 4.
11 - W-HDDc.ini from Taboo Vision - Triplicated for Drives C:\, D:\, and E:\. Changed font, spacing, orientation of items and changed the color of the bars showing used space.
12 - W-CPU.ini from Taboo Vision - Heavily modified from the original for font, orientation and color.
13 - W-RAM.ini from Taboo Vision - ""
14 - W-Network.ini from Taboo Vision - "" Also changed from line graphs to histograms and changed colors.
15 - weather4daysfahrenheit.ini from Omnimo 4.0 WP7 Panels Weather - Changes to the math that scales the skin to make the icons smaller and closer together in order to fit into the space I wanted them to fit into. Font changed. -
-
Please could you tell me how did you change it? I want to do exactly the same thing! -
I'd love to, but this is a very big request of yours. How about you pick any one of my skins and I'll provide the text for it. To accompany it, I'll also explain the techniques I learned to help you to understand how to make the changes. Once you get the hang of things, it's going to take up ALL of your free time. hehe There's a lot of trial and error involved. -
Sorry, I only read what you wrote, not what you quoted. Here's what I did to shutdown.ini to make it look like just those icons and the sleep function for the "key":
First - ANYTHING that you want to not be displayed in a Rainmeter skin needs to have a semicolon placed in front of every line of that particular meter/image/thing. ie, the restart icon itself and its function when on a left down click (you can perform commands for LeftMouseDownAction and LeftMoustUpAction aka the release of the button).
Anyway, for this skin, I placed ";" before:
[Sep]
[Square_Middle]
and then for all meters under PICTURE and USERNAME
For the sleep function, I replaced the LeftMouseDownAction, in [Logoff_Icon], with this:
LeftMouseDownAction=!Execute [%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Standby]
Save the skin and refresh it. Oh, you'll also want to change the skin settings and uncheck "keep on screen" so that you can get it as close to any edge as you want.

Oh, I see the Portal 2 on your desktop. Oh, how much fun that game is! My friend nannies for one of Valve's developers. -
Its the first thing I've really "modified" in rainmeter so i was happy
Haha yeah, awesome game!they did a good job with it
-
Keep it up with tinkering around in rainmeter. Lots of fun to be had. -
ahl, that is awesome i wish i had the willpower to start tinkering with colors so i could use my gears of war wallpaper
-
Like if you wanna change the colors, open the .ini and just look for the word "Color"
Thats pretty much how i did it, just needed to change a few other files, for the actual skin's background image and stuff like that.
-
Yeah, look for the "Color" header. It's usually near the beginning of the skin, or it's seperately defined in each meter. It's displayed as R, G, B, Opacity (the lower the number the more transparent it is). -
Just something I came up with yesterday! Let me know what you think!

Cool!
What skin are you using that has the Shutdown/Restart/Hibernate icons on the top middle of your screen? -
I have no idea actually.... I just used the icons and skins I had on my external drive. Back in time, I were very into this rainmeter thing, and when I saw this therad I did feel like I wanted to do it again... Sorry.
