I will, when I get Vista when SP1 comes out for it. :)

Ooh, the black parade eh? I think their first two albums: bullets and three cheers were way better than TBP. I was a disappointed fan.

    To move your taskbar...

    1) Right-click on the taskbar.
    2) If it is locked, unlock it.
    3) Then, drag the taskbar to the top (hold down the mouse while on the taskbar).

The thing he has on the bottom of his screen is called a dock. The idea is from Macs. You can download free dock software such as ObjectDock and RocketDock.

Sweet. Which docking app do you use Matt? Any pro's and con's for each of the two you mentioned? Do either offer tabbed docs so you can have like a media tab and have all of your media apps in that tab and like an Office tab and have your word, excel, etc in that tab? thanks for your help.

I used to use ObjectDock, but I haven't installed in since installing Vista. I've tried RocketDock, too. I think I like the look and feel of ObjectDock more... it seems to flow better. I'm not sure, but I don't think either one has a tab ability. Too bad, though.

Here's my current desktop, but I change it often so it likely won't last.

By the way, the gadgets used are:

    Sphere Timer
    Standard Calendar
    App Launcher
    Multimeter - Dual Core
    WeatherBug
    iTunes Accessory

Object dock is much better in my OPinion. it has many features that rocketdock doesn't have.. but rocketdock is faster and low in memory usage.

damn, i still use win 2k old style theme in my xp with no effects. Its fast easy and friendly. I will switch back to win2k classic if i bought vista anyway. Damn, i don't find those effects cool because i need to work on 2 monitors with 20+ windows open at any time.

Dead embarassing question, but how do you get a snapshot of the screen?I've tried using the "Prt Sc" key (which appears to be the shift function of "Sys Rq") although nothing happens after I've pressed it aside from the mous pointer blinking quickly. Am I doing something wrong?

Sub-D - I think the blinking mouse pointer means that the screenshot has been copied to the clipboard. Did you try opening, say, a blank Powerpoint slide and pasting the clipboard contents? Thats how XP works anyway...

To take a screenshot you have to use Ctrl+PrtSc then paste that into some document. (e.g. Microsoft Paint, Photoshop, or Word)

It's easier. Press Prt Scr (print screen) and open up paint and then just paste.

Stole is such a nasty word...more like a developer was inspired by Compiz and decided to make a version for Vista/XP.

It actually works pretty well and even had a feature that Beryl/Compiz + Gnome don't which is independent wallpapers for each desktop supported by Windows natively.

All you do is rotate the cube to the screen you want, right click and change the wallpaper. Done.

You can move windows around different viewports, ***m the cube out, all the usually Compiz/Beryl fun.

And guess what, no XGL/AIGLX BS and no configuring. Run the .exe and it's running!

you should remove the recycle bin.
put it on the toolbar then remove it totally from the desktop for a cleaner look

I take it those are ObjectDocks mikeymike? If so, did you have to track down those alternative icons yourself, or are they built into a theme or something?

damn I like ur desktop very much.
Its got that whole clean feel/black feel to it.

I was wondering, is there a good, free, skinning program... that isnt really a program in itself? I mean, I have right now teh XP Royale Noir thing going on with the look... and with this i just popped it into the Themes Folder in Windows. Does anyone know of a site where i can download some more skins to pop into my themes folder?

Any recomendations on Programs are welcome too. Ive tried WindowBlinds before and I didnt like it very much as it seemed to be a cover over the original look, if you know what I mean.

    Am I making sense?

Oh and btw, mikeymike, the toolbar thing on the bottom of your desktop looks funky, is that from Vista? or is that another program? are those icons for each program you have minimised? if not where do the minimized windows go? haha. The top one I read is Objectdock thing, from the same developer as Windowsblinds yes?

I like the whole no taskbar look...

    Thanks in advance.
    Jeremy

I dont know of any skinning progs other than Objectdock's Windowblinds. Im sure there are some out there but i was never much into skins. I just like changing my desktop wallpaper and icons.
I too dont like Windowblinds all that much. I find it to be too much of a mem hog.
Besides, i play games on my lappy so its easy to just shut down my ObjectDock and im ready to go.

The Objectdock im using id ObjectDock Plus. The 'plus' version gives you the totally customizable tab bar on the bottom of my desktop. This way i can totally hide the taskbar

Heres a close up of my top bar and its icons
    [IMG]

The windows 'start' is up top and heres what it looks like when i clcik it:

If i do run WindowBlinds this is the theme i use. the carbon fiber look matches my Asus G2
    [IMG]

With all the customizing i get with objectdock i can eliminate the bottom taskbar and i hardly ever clcik start now.
If i had the toolbar showing this is what it would look like:

All the programs i ever need and use are in those tabs. I even deleted the windows recycle bin off the desktop.

So if you get ObjectDock Plus you'll get both top and bottom bars. And the docks they sit on (mine looks like green glass) is totally customizable too.

    Heres some other examples:
    http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8696/desk6ed5.png
    http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/3438/desk7qe9.png
    http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/6163/desk8wt6.png
    http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/788/desk9ir0.png
    http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/2065/desk10qg5.png

You can also have this bottom bar hidden at the bottom with just the tabs showing. And when u clcik on a tab the bar pops up to show u ur icons

You can use the snipping tool to prnt screen if you have vista.

win key >> type: 'snip' >> press enter

I use the keyboard more then the touchpad mouse, all my favorites are hot keys(win-key + # quick launch). My desktop is blank/black, taskbar is hidden. I like the customization I'm seeing though. That cube looks fun.
