I just got a new laptop and the first thing I tried to do was install Partition Magic and make second partiton but it did not work.
I am able to use Vista's shrink partition tool, but it will not allow me to shrink as much as I want. Let me explain:
I have 50 gb free on the drive (it is pretty bare with only windows vista installed - and total size is 65GB). But when I use the shrink partition tool...it will only allow maximim shrink of 20 gb. I was lookign to have C: at 30 gb and D: at 35 gb.
Any clues as to how to shrink C: more than the tool will allow?![]()

Yeah, I noticed this too... however, when I tried it, I was only able to skrink it by 10 GB (on a 100GB HDD, 25GB used)... so I guess that means there is no set limitation...
Anyone know a solution?

Make sure you do a chkdsk and defrag it (maybe a couple of times) before you try to resize partitions. Defragging moves the data to the front of the partition, so tools like Partition Magic and ntfsresize can shrink it further.

Hi,
I also had the same problem.Try to use Acronis Disk Director. This worked fine for me, but you have to defrag you harddrive first. When I did that there was still some data at the end of the drive which could not be defragmentated. So I had to disable the recovery function of vista then defrag then use acronis then shrink partition then enable recovery function again.I know very tricky but it works.
