I am currently using my wife's Dell Vostro 5470. Clean install of Windows 10 Pro + all the drivers from DELL. I disabled fast startup even to ensure that when I shutdown, a full shutdown is done not a hybrid shutdown/hibernate but still, when I turn on the laptop next morning, the battery is dead @0%
Another problem is even if the laptop is shutdown, I notice my external HDD light is on as if the laptop is on and running but it isn't.
Regardless, I disconnect all USB devices from the laptop then shut it down, the battery still drains to 0%
Is there any setting in the BIOS that I need to change or how to solve this?

remove the battery

while that would work, that shouldn't be the normal practice so I'm hoping to find a proper solution. -
Try to downgrade Intel Management Engine to ver 9.x.x.x

Thanks a lot!! Never could've thought of this, I didn't even install MEI since Windows Update installed MEI v11.0.0.1157 automatically and I thought no point installing the older version since WU will update it anyway.
I'll test this now and report back in a few hours. -

you nailed this one down like a sniper! Precisely! that was the fix, after 3 hours the battery is still @ 100% while being off! I really appreciate it!Coltaine79, i_pk_pjers_i and alexhawker like this. -
It's a bit ridiculous that this issue STILL hasn't been solved.

Well, I posted that link for a reason, did you guys open it and read some of the posts? It seems this problem appears with newer version of MEI + the BIOS for some laptops. Some people reported that they got their problem fixed by updating to the latest BIOS. I didn't mention it in this thread because its easier(and safer) to downgrade MEI but it kinda makes sense since not ALL laptops out there was affected by this so you really can't put the blame on MEI only.
AFAIK most manufactures released at least one BIOS update after W10 release, maybe there is one for your device as well. -

well I have the latest BIOS on the Dell Vostro 5470 A11 and that didn't do the trick but downgrading back to v9 MEI which is the official driver on the dell website for my laptop for Win 10 solved the problem

Having the latest BIOS may not mean the code was added yet to fix an issue. Of course downgrading to an older compliant version of MEI is going to provide more consistent results. Of course this is all just observations as I am not there in W10 with you guys.
