People keep saying you can't delete the sidebar, only disable it, but I did.
Is this normal?
I just right clicked on the Windows sidebar file in programs and took ownership and deleted.
-
I still don't see how you deleted.
-
I'm guessing he means he deleted the Windows Sidebar folder in Program Files.
I suppose you can delete that just like you can delete almost any Windows file. It doesn't matter though. It doesn't uninstall it. You still have Sidebar-related stuff in the Control Panel and probably the registry. You save all of about 7 MB of disk space. (That's 7 MB, not 7 GB.) Woop-dee-doo.
If you really want to tweak your system, try deleting Notepad and MS Paint. -
you'r right, just deleted the folder.
It is still in the CP and when I click on it it says App not found.
Not about gaining 7Mb, just trying to get rid of junk I don't use, I use notepad daily and I like MS paint. -
You will mess up with you computer that way, eventually you will want to unistall the application properly then you wil get an error. You should unistall appication using the right tool in the control panel.

I just turned it off and kept it from starting itself. Good enough for me.
Here is how -
Yep, that's the way I would do it too. But I actually like it, I have the WiFi radar, Network meter (2), curreny exchange, local weather, yellow sticker and the App Launcher v3.
-
I left it on, some of the gadgets are neat, I use like 25 of them

I play with SideBar now and again, myself.
Right click on the icon in the system tray, Add gadgets, Get more gadgets online. -
Yes, I have done that but I haven't found many interesting ones, I just have 7 of them.
-
As I said, have 25 of them, but you have to take the time to look through them online.
3 radios,2 weather,2 newspapers,1 currency,1 for shutdown, etc... -
And deleting randomly the system files like this is not normal. -
-
You can select an option that fixes the sidebar to view at all times. I stays pinned to the side of the screen but doing this reduces your screen real estate though...cheers!
-
Exactly like with ObjectDock.
I have reserved the top of the screen for it, since it interfered with page titles and all.
Sidebar is cool, right now listening to online radio and playing the puzzle thingy -
What has the sidebar done to you, Duckfart? It deserves to live like any other application.
