Windows 7 or 8.1 for gaming laptop? (non touchscreen)

StormJumper Notebook Virtuoso
I would say W7 that assuming you have a COA Windows 7 install O/S to start with.
-
Windows 8.1 for eUFI boot support.
-
The ModernUI Start screen makes a nice game launcher.
-
Windows 7 for the win!
Less issues with games than 8. (note: I didn't say no issues, I said less issues) -
For gaming? I'd say it doesn't matter. Pick whichever one has better driver support. If you're into BF4, then Windows 8, there's a noticeable improvement in performance.
-
As hinted to above it depends upon a few factors, what brand laptop are we talking about?

Doesn't matter. I use both and they are adequate for gaming.
Only issues with 8 are with some older games. However 8 delivers slightly better performance as a trade-off. -
If you're getting a new gaming laptop, there should be no/few driver issues with W8.1. If the question is whether you should upgrade your old gaming laptop to W8.1 or leave it on W7, I'd suggest sticking with your current OS.

Because we both know that is not true. We both know it was a very limited number of titles, using specific styles of mouse polling.
We also both know this was patched. Months ago. How to Fix Mouse Lag in PC Games on Windows 8.1
So as we both know, no, it does not any longer have the irritating issue you mentioned in the few titles it was affecting.mattcheau likes this. -
I did not know MS release a hotfix in December ( Mouse pointer stutters or freezes when you play certain games in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2). So don't be snarky...
So don't assume we both knew, cause I did not know the mouse input bug was fixed.
So no more snarkiness, gosh darndit!!! Can't take anymore of it this week!!! -
For gaming Win 7 & 8.1 are very simular. So simular that once in a game you wouldn't notice a difference. But as mentioned, BF4 has better performance, also some amd cards perform better in Win 8.1. Also Win 8.1 has directx 11.2, which isn't used yet as far as I know.
I am on Win 8.1 and have had no real mouse issues. If there is lag, I haven't noticed it.
Overall, I would say the differences for gaming are small enough to ignore, but a slight win for Win 8.1.
Simple question for y'all.
