I have a friend who wants to maintain a simple website for her grandfather in Romania. She wants the website to display thumbnails of photos as well as full-size photos, however the site must have private, passworded access to these photos (or the whole website).

Is there a simple, novice program that can do this? Any help is appreciated.

It isn't a "program", but Photobucket does all that. Upload all your images and display it in a thumbnail gallery that may be either public or private with a password.

I'm sure there are other equivalent sites, but Photobucket is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head.

I like eth's advise a lot. Running you own domain, programming the page(s), etc can be intimidating for the novice. Online services like photobucket, flickr, etc are great ways to easily share photos for free

OK, thanks for the advice! I will look into it.
