I use Webshots for my desktop wallpaper and screensaver ( www.webshots.com). It is free, but you can only download the low res (8x6) photos. I subscribe (about $28/year), and I can get the widescreen (16:9) wallpapers, and the UXGA ones.

The photos are really awesome, some are high definition.

Visual style. Takes no extra resources, because its window's themes. A bit harder to get running though. Go here first: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=308905
then try deviantart for different themes, or wincustomize.
I used to run konflabulator, but it got old really fast. Having a big giant clock on your desktop isn't too entertaining.
