Laptop with a 2GHz C2D. I sold a laptop a few weeks back and the people I sold it to use skype and a wireless connection and multiple laptops each with their own skype password [plus an actual phone with skype]. As soon as skype boots up to the log-on screen the sound goes on the laptop. If I exit out of skype the sound comes back and if I go back to skype again the sound stays. Also, one of the other laptops logged of skype while I didn't have sound and then I suddenly did.
I am totally unfamiliar with this and don't know how to correct this problem other than tell them to log on, exit out and then go back on. It seem to keep the last person to log in, logged in.
Help, any ideas, settings, mojo, anything?

Got latest version? Run through the audio set up and let Skype find out the audio device? Do you have more than ONE audio device in the notebooks?

Also, that method for getting back sound that worked didn't work this last time. She happened to not sign into her IM this time, just exited out.
I'm totally lost. I'm not familiar with skype, their network, I don't IM, I can't understand why the sound is cutting out.
The laptop has both Realtek sound drivers and Window's own.
Skype says it is the latest version.
The Audio settings say that the mic and speakers are checked off to automatically adjust and "Ring PC speaker" WASN'T checked off, I checked it off and now have sound again.
[was that it, IDK?]
time to reboot.
EDIT: Sound doesn't go off every time IM sign-on screen loads. When it does Call>Audio Options>Sound test seems to correct the problem.
It's a temporary fix for now, but I'd love to hear of a more permanent solution to not having the sound go off on this laptop in the first place. -
My take is that Skype got "confused" when there are more than 2 audio devices being available. It happens on mine as well. If Windows uses one device over the other than Skype would not remember it. Hopefully that this will be fixed with the next upcoming version.
