Maybe some of you have noticed long ago that the good old trusted Skype 3.8 (the older and better format of Skype) is not compatible with Windows 7.

I really do not like the 4.0 and above versions of Skype so I had hoped for a solution which would work. I finally found it. Well I did not personally but I found the info.

The 3.6.0.248 works just fine with Windows 7 Starter, so I am guessing with all versions. Here is the link:

    Enjoy.

It's just not as good for long time users I really don't like the format and it's too easy to make a mistake and send a message to a wrong person. And it's better for me to have a separate window for chats etc

So you are wedded to an old GUI and are willing to miss out on technical improvements?

Version 3.6 works fine on Win7... essentially the same as Version 3.8. I agree that the versions from 4.0 onwards have been disappointing.

Yeah, Skype 4.0 works fine. The OP just has a preference for the older version.

Maybe something is changed in 4.0 he doesn't particularly like.

How about going to View > Compact View? Then you have your traditional contacts list with separate chat and video chat windows.

Midnight sun ... really ? Sorry never bother to look at the settings at times since Ihad seen a lot of complaints about the format I had assumed it was just that way. Does it look exactly the same as the older Skype when you do that? Anyhow yes 3.6 works and 3.8 does not. Sometimes up-dates are not always better ...
