I am outraged to realize today that my Skype subscription has increased from 12 EUR to 19 EUR. No warning, no update, no nothing. This is fairly outrageous.

This affects predominantly people who need flat calling to China, but nonetheless, I am quite upset. More or less 20 EUR a months is quite a bit and a 60% increase seems incredibly high.

Do you agree (please agree :) ) or am I seeing it the wrong way?

A price increase like that with no notification is pretty messed up. I'm sure they're totally within their rights as per their TOS, but it's still not right. However, I can't necessarily fault the price increase itself since I don't know their operating costs or margins. Personally I've always just used pay-as-you-go with Skype because I don't Skype-out very often.

Skype-to-Skype calling is free (whether it's a PC, Mac, tablet, smartphone...), but Skype-out - calling phones with your Skype account, is a paid service. They have monthly subscriptions like TheHansTheDampf is using as well as pay-as-you-go options. Not sure if the PaYG prices changed, but historically they're just a couple US cents a minute with a small (up to about ten cents) connection fee.

My prices haven't seemed to change, I don't pay month to month, I pay for the whole year. Hopefully I don't get slapped next year with a huge price hike.

I checked, and yes you will. As friendly as they are, they will not mention it to you either. They won't increase your subscription price, but remove certain options, crippling your subscription. If you want to maintain the same service level, you will have to sign up for a new subscription, effectively raising your cost by 60%.

Having been with Skype for many years but as soon as an American company gets involved the price increases start. greed is a curse. I have now down loaded yahoo and as soon as become conversant with it, good bye skype
