Just wondering if anyone is using Skype, or if most people use Yahoo IM or AOL's IM?

Also, has anyone used the telephones you can get to make Skype calls, which connects to your laptop via USB? They're reasonably cheap ($50), seems like if they work well, they'd be a good option to make calls when on the road.

    Thanks! :D

I use it for international calls (pay) only. The rates are pretty good. And I use MSN and google talk for voice chatting (that's what most of my friends use)

    haven't tried the telephones

I have a NexoTek NT-P500. I'm very happy with it. Be sure to get the current software from their website if you get the phone. They have a cheaper model without the LCD display too.

I actually just got off of my USB Skype phone with my dad after talking long distance (Niagara Falls, NY to Arkansas) for about an hour. I love being able to talk to him for free, and the phone is a great addition because it's just like a regular phone, which I purchased at Wal-Mart for $25. Keep in mine I'm using Skype with my laptop over a Wi-Fi connection just to give you an idea of how I have it set up. I highly recommend downloading Skype since it offers so much value for free. It's great knowing I can talk to my dad whenever I want and not have to worry about costs or time.

    Piers,
So, is your dad also using Skype? Does he have to be at his computer to receive your call, or can you call his landline? I know that calling outside of the Skype network costs a little (I think it's like 2 cents per minute).

Just wondering how others use this. I don't have that many friends or family who are using Skype, only my bro in Dallas (I'm in California)

    Thanks!

I just call him on his landline phone, and he doesn't even have Skype. Skype is currently offering free phone calls to any landline phone in the U.S. and Canada until the end of the year if you download the Skype software and signup for a free account. Just go to Skype.com to download the latest software and begin setting up a user account. Like I said, I am able to call any landline phone in the U.S. and Canada for free, altough calling any other country requires a fee, and it works just like a regular telephone.

If both people have the software; you can talk internationally for free(need software and headset). Ive been talkin to family in India for nothing and its a good deal while it lasts.
