    Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my whitebook's sleep function. Every once in a while when I put my laptop to sleep, monitor turns off by the laptop remains on indefinitely. I can't turn the monitor back on, or turn the laptop off without doing a force shut down. I am using all of the drivers provided by xotic pc, expect for the most current ati drivers. I have not been able to reproduce this problem, and it seems to be increasing in frequency. I also have sp1 installed with all the updates on Vista 64bit.

    Thank you!

Have you talked to Xoticpc first, to see if they've already dealt with this particular issue?

Also, what sorts of peripherals do you use?

Thank you for your reply. They said I need update windows vista, but it has already been fully updated. Other than that, I haven't had a chance to contact them again. But will do so this weekend over the phone.

I have a wireless mouse with a usb receiver, a printer, and 2 hard drives connected to the laptop.

That's quite a lot of attached peripherals, other than the mouse (which you state is USB), are all of the other devices USB devices as well? If so, how are they attached (e.g., do you use an external hub to increase the number of USB ports available)? Finally, and perhaps most importantly, do you leave these devices attached all the time, such as when you boot up, power down, or try to put the system into sleep?

I had the same problem with my laptop. I believe the problem was solved after I turned off power saving for the network card.

That is another potential source of sleep problems - as well as enabling the option to allow the NIC to turn the computer on (i.e., Wake-on-LAN ability - the ability to remotely wake a system up by sending it so-called "magic packets").

I also have a whitebook and am having problems with the Sleep function. If it does go into sleep, no matter what I do to try and get it out of sleep nothing works so therefore I am SOL and have to shut it down manually. Perhaps you could make a post about this in the OCZ section of the forum, located under "Other Manufacturers" if you are unsure of where it is.

What chipset do you have in that whitebook? It'd be interesting to go through the Intel errata sheets for the chipset in question to see if they've flagged any errata relating to bringing the system out of sleep. I've looked at the errata for other chipsets in the past and have seen notations for certain problems, many relating to USB devices, that related to the sleep function.

I have experienced intermittent issues with the Sleep function in Vista on my Dell Vostro 1500.

I have tried everything. It works most of the time, but there are occasions when it will not go into Sleep and other times, it will not come out of Sleep.

I have checked all the devices to make certain that the flags are correct in how they affect power functions. I have set and reset the Bios. I have also re-installed the Quickset software from Dell. It will still occur on occasion ans then manifest itself for a while and then disappear.

I have researched it at Microsoft and Dell and Google searched until the cows come home and yet to find an answer.

Get the number of your chipset and then check the Intel data sheets for that chipset to see if the errata sheets list any errata in the chipset that relate to the sleep function - there are a number of Intel chipsets that have flaws in them that cause problems with the sleep function.

Thanks, I just checked the Intel site for any info on errata on the PM965 chipset referring to Sleep state problems, but I was not able to locate anything.

guys check this. even if you dont have a external mouse some touchpads are recognized as a hid mouse and this usually fixes the issue if that is the problem

I think that I have it narrowed down to nVidia drivers from laptopvideo2go.

Some of them seem to be missing elements on power states according to anecdotal evidence. I also have noticed that it manifests only when I change drivers-some work and some do not.

Good find - that's another one that should be kept in the toolbox when these mysterious "issues" crop up.

Yup, with lv2g drivers (at least with 180.xx) returning from sleep never worked for me. I updated to the official 179.28 and all seems fine so far.

    Not only to nvidia.

Happens to ATI equipped notebooks as well.

I think it has to do with PCI power management.

Thank you all for your replies. Well, I've called xotic pc tech support and they told me that this is not something they can normally help me with because I did not purchase the OS from them. So, I'm hoping you guys might be able to provide some more help, if possible. :)

They did suggest for me to start disabling processes in the task manager, starting with HP, but did not offer any help beyond that. I'm a little cornered with randomly ending processes and was wondering if any of you have figured out a fix or have any recommendations of processes to disable?

Some of you suggested that it might also be an issue with ATI drivers, but I've tried multiple drivers and still have the same problem.

On my desktop with a 965 chipset, the NIC power management caused this. The latest Intel driver for the NIC has a ton of power settings to change, and that largely alleviated the issue. I also had a problem with the Away Mode driver not being supported in x64, so disabling that in the BIOS helped as well. After changing both of those, I was able to sleep fully, and awake the machine normally.
