    Hi Guys,
I find Win7 very slow at handling my HD. Copying files from different drives, searching files, etc., is painfully slow. I have win7 at home because I play video games (need DX11), but I cannot have it at work because of what I mentioned: It's way slower than WinXP for handling my HD.
I wonder if I'm doing something wrong, of if there is a way to solve this and make Win7 as fast as WinXP on this. My specs are fairly high (as I said I'm a gamer).
And something else, if I may:
I find Windows desktop search very slow and fairly useless compared with Google, Copernic, Everything, and other search engines. Can I uninstall Win7 search system?

    Thanks for all the help.

I'd bet your issues at work have nothing to do with Windows 7. Given the same compatible hardware and software, a properly-running W7 installation will be just fast as XP. If your work computer is unusually slow and you have sufficient ram then I would suspect the problem lies elsewhere on the system.

Alright, but any idea where elsewhere?.
Thing is I have XP at work for now, I don't want to migrate because my PC at home (particularly on HD related issues) works slow on Win7. My PC at home is WAY better than the one at work:

At Work: 2007, Core 2 duo 1.6 GHz, 2 GB Ram, SATA.
    At Home: 2011, Athlon X3 2.9 GHz, 4 GB Ram, SATA2

So, no one else have noticed issues when copying, say, from pendrives to HD? My Win7 at home takes at least twice what my WinXP at work takes (on a much slower PC).

Does your work not have an IT department that you can take this to?

To turn off search - control panel - Programs and .. - turn windows feature on or off- uncheck windows search. (i have mine unchecked it S/B on by default)
I tested on my asus with 3 GIG file - From HDD to USB 2 stick 5 MB / Sec (SLOWWWW)
FRom USB stick to HDD 5 times faster.. I tried disabling anti virus this did not help. I recently did a clean install of win 7. I do not think you are doing anything wrong!

Do you have all the appropriate chipset drivers and such installed? That can often cause those kinds of slowdowns.

The 2GB of RAM might be running a little tight, too. How much free memory is on your work machine? Are your drives encrypted or anything? A C2D isn't a terribly quick CPU any more, either.

Agreed. Review network connections and setup at work, many times this would slow down data transfer

    cheers ...

I will, thank you. Just to clarify: my PC at home is the better one (4 Gb), but with win7, slower to copy.
