I just purchased an Asus Eee PC 900 and upgraded to 2GB of RAM. Thanks to the numerous tips and tweaks found on these forums, I’ve been able to drastically speed up the netbook. However, I’ve noticed that my network takes at least 1-2 minutes after startup to load on the tray and create a connection. I don’t think this is normal. With 2GB of RAM and plenty of hard drive space, I can’t think of what the issue might be. Considering the issue is after everything has loaded, I don’t think anything is holding it up. From a couple of searches, it might be IE8. Has anyone noticed this issue after installing IE8 and will downgrading to IE7 mediate the problem?

IE8 should have little to nothing to do with the speed that your computer connects to a network. What OS are you using? Are you using your WLAN manufacturer's connection software, or what is included with Windows? Do you have many background apps that load when you first boot?

I am using XP and upgraded to SP3. I am using what is included with Windows. I disabled most of the apps that are loading at first boot.

Figured it out. Norton Security was running in the background. Didn't even know. There's no icon or ANYTHING.
