I'm currently using an Acer Aspire 5000. I'm only using 12 of its 70 gigs (80 advertised) and for some odd reason it's running quite slow. It wasn't this slow when I first bought it.
I guarantee that I haven't any spyware, adware, nor virus's on this notebook.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why it's running slower?
And how can I speed it up?
Thank you.

Check your processes to see if your one of your app is using oddly amount of resource.

Have you defragged your hard drive recently? Also try checking your number of extraneous running processes and try removing them from startup with msconfig.

I know how to do it and everything but exactly what does defraging my hard drive do?
-
It makes everything that needs to be accessed easier to access... by getting all the stuff put back where it needs to be. Also try scanning for viri and spyware anyway

if it gets too bad backup data and re format.

a simple google search of "What does defragging do" brings up perfect results http://www.google.com/search?client...&q=what+does+defragging+do&btnG=Google+Search
PS, google will even find your spelling error
Slow Notebook, any ideas?
