For some reason whenever I want to shutdown or restart my laptop it takes like 30 seconds or so- it used to do it in like 5 seconds man. I don't know what happened man, was fine just yesterday.... I can't come up with anything that I have changed.

I have been busting my brain for the past like 3 hours and I can't figure out a solution. I know about the 20000 to 5000 registry tweak but that's more like putting a band-aid on a bleeding artery, I want to actually "fix" this.

Anyone have ANY idea what is going on?

    I would appreciate ANY help!!!!

Use Advanced Vista Optimizer 2008 and tweak your system with it, it should drop your shutdown times to less than 30seconds. It can clean the registry out for old apps that is not in use anymore/uninstalled and remove them completely so your system will get much cleaner and such.

It made a big difference on my system with both boot-times and shutdowns.

Trying now. I even selected the Verbose mode so Vista shows everything that happens so I can identify where it hangs.

Tried it, modified my msconfig to force process share between 2 physical processors and it boots and shuts down with an acceptable speed. It does not freeze like yesterday.

    Sweet :)

How and where do you enable the verbose option?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it in msconfig, under boot options, checking the "OS boot information" thingy at boot up :)

Thanks for the tip. That Verbose option is very useful. You see exactly what happens and where ;).

No problem dude :) One is glad to be at service!

Yeah, i've been missing that kind of option in windows since i was a unix-user, so it's indeed very sweet! :) So thanks to you too for bringing it up!
