I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R61 with the following specs:
Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz
4GB DDR2-667 RAM
60GB 7200RPM HDD
Intel GMA X3100 Graphics
I did a fresh install of Vista Business x64 and haven't really added much to it except Office 2007, Acrobat Pro 8.0, VMWare Workstation, Google Earth and a few odds & ends. My startup list consists of:
Windows Defender
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
ThinkVantage Active Protection System
On screen display
Intel(R) Common User Interface (there are 3 of these pointing to different .exe files)
Microsoft Windows Operating System
VirusScan Enterprise
McAfee Common Framework
ThinkPad Power Manager
BLOG (something withing the Lenovo ThinkVantage software)
Java Platform SE 6 U3
VMWare Workstation (there are 2 of these pointing to two different .exe files)
scheduler_proxy Application (has to do with Thinkpad System Update)
ThinkPad EasyEject Utility
SMax4PNP Application
AcroTray
QuickTime
I have been feeling like my startup is taking too long and recently timed it. It takes exactly 1 minute to get to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen (I'm working on a domain) and another 2 minutes before my desktop is completely loaded, sidebar & all.
Any ideas? If you need any more info, please ask...
Thanks in advance...

That seems very long since I am under a minute for boot with a VERY similiar config, and a slower processor.

I've read in the forum that Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise is lighter on resources than the regular version (don't know if i'ts true) but I know that regular Mcafee can slow down a boot process

Yeah, I'm pretty sure McAfee AV Enterprise is less resource intensive than the retail version... I had the same version (8.5i) installed on another XP machine and it booted very quickly.
Look at it this way, I had essentially the same software setup (minus the ThinkPad stuff) on an old HP laptop I was using before w/ a P4 3.6, 1GB, 7200RPM HDD and XP Pro x32 and it booted in about 45 seconds including me entering username/pw.
It just seems wrong that I moved to a much more powerful system w/ a lot more resources and a 64-bit OS and now its slower. Of course, once booted, the system is very fast...
