Greetings - I ran two searches before I asked this question so I hope this isn't a duplicate. Sometime in the last two weeks - Windows Update has at least doubled the time it takes to shutdown all of my XP systems. I am reasonably certain it was Windows Update b/c I just installed two XP systems this past week for family members and the shutdown times were normal until I put the 80+ updates on them. Has anyone else noticed this? If I could get the KB number then I intend to remove it from all of my systems. Thanks! Edited to add: just checked to see if an Update had enabled clear pagefile at shutdown and thats not it.

Are you sure it was from Windows update? I haven't noticed anything... And wouldn't both your computers received mostly the same kind of updates?
If you went into Safemode and it shuts down fine, I would think it is something that was installed and not Windows update that is causing you problems.
All I can think of is try shutting down programs first or try leaving Task Manager on as you shut down and figure out which process it is having problems accessing/shutting down. -
Thanks for your reply - I hadn't thought about leaving the T/M up as I shutdown, I'll try it. I'm typing this on the dv2000 and it is one of systems with a slow shutdown. The only uncommon app installed is IrfanView - which hasn't caused a problem before. Nothing unusual in the Event Logs either.

I just noticed this as well. My shutdown speed was great on my new 8510p (delivered today) until I installed a latest security update for IE 7. This was just a few minutes ago and my shutdown speed literally took over two - three minutes.
Earlier it was way, way way below that.
Edit: Have XP Pro. -
Jitsun - I have confirmed this with another person in my office but he's not sure which KB may have done it. Could you possibly check your system (Add/Remove programs?) and determine the KB number? Thanks
