Hey everyone,
I'm having this problem and i don't know how to resolve it. I have Toshiba satellite p750 (Core i5 2410m 2,3 Ghz, nVidia GT 540m, 8 Gb ram, Toshiba 750 Gb hdd, Win 7 64 bit Home Premium, Norton Internet Security) and i used to play assassins creed brotherhood a month ago. Now I noticed, when i installed witcher 2 that it's working pretty slow even on low settings and it should be able to run it good even on high settings. When i enter AC brotherhood now it takes ages to load and it's laggy. I'm not sure what happened but computer became very slow. It's not overheating cuz temperatures are good(GPU 54 C, HDD 40 C, Core 0 62 C, Core 1 60 C).I've done ScanFix, defragmentation, cleaned registry, deleted temp files, cache, done drive wiper, uninstalled unnecessary programs and nothing helped.![]()

Get rid of the Norton and replace it with something that does not use up so much system resources.
-
Yup, I run Eset Smart Security and it has 0 lag in any game. It is the lightest on any system and most secure still.
-
Norton was already installed with payed licence and comp worked great. It's not problem only in games. It lags even during some usual operations.

Have you considered getting rid of the malware or virus that is causing this problem. What else are you using to get rid of things like malware. I would put MalwareBytes free on and check. I put a paid copy of Norton on my first pc. It ran so slow that dsl was twice as slow as dial up. OK: Save your product key and remove Norton completely off of your computer. You will need the Norton removal tool to do this. Install Avast free instead. If this works keep the Avast free. If not you put Norton back on.

I'm using Malwarebytes Anti malware so that im clean of malware. Im also using cccleaner from time to time. Deleted Norton, Installed avast, nothing happened.

OP If you post the make and model of your hard drive (Seagate momentus BAC)? there may be a firmware update to address the issue. I would not randomly update the firmware unless it specifically addresses the problem.

Norton haters?

Might want to check Toshiba's site for a driver update for the nVidia GT 540m.

All drivers are up to date

If the computer ran fine about a month ago with all of your software installed and then suddenly decided to slow down... it's possible the HDD is to blame.
What about booting?
Have you experienced increased boot times since this lag appeared?
Any crashes, BSOD's, etc?
Also, I wouldn't discount the possibility that some unwanted malware got through and is slowing you down.
You should definitely install Malwarebytes (free), update it and run it to see if it finds anything.
Alternatively, you could also download/update/install MSE, Avira or Avast (free versions of course) and scan your computer with one of those, though since Norton gets rather good ratings either way, it's possible this wouldn't show anything.
Install/update MBAM and run Windows in Safe Mode.
Run your MBAM and Norton scans from there and see if they find something.
If not, then it's not very likely you were infected, but rather that the problem is either on a hardware level or software based.
One final alternative that comes to mind is to do a format of your OS partition (backup any files you may have) and do a clean install (as a last resort). -
Of course it ran fine, it was brand new...only thing I installed are games...but everything ran great ..until one day suddenly it started to lag...Done scans , nothing found. I might try Toshiba recovery wizard to restore everything to it's fabric state and settings.

Backup. Reformat.

You might as well backup your files and do clean OS install.
If the laptop came with Windows 7 SP1, then you can track down the free download link on this forum), and install the edition you currently have, registering it using the OEM key at the back of the laptop.
Install all of the latest drivers and all to your laptop on your own (though Windows update should be able to do that for you) and that's it.
If that doesn't solve the lag, then it's likely hardware based. -
Used Toshiba recovery Wizard..restored lap to factory out of the box state , solved the problems, works perfectly..Thank people
