Hi guys, i went to control panel > system and maintenance > performance info and tools > advanced tools

it says that there is a driver interfering with windows entering sleep mode.

they are the wireless drivers and I think if you are going on standby / hibernate, they probably interfere with that process... I don't know how to improve on that time though.. but one thing u can try is turning off the wireless before going to standby or hibernate mode.. probably with the wireless turn on / off hardware switch... try it.

hi fonduekids, thansk for the swift reply. i realised that my shutdown time has increased too. i dun use wireless at home..and i still get the same shutdown time as when im outside using wireless. so probably i have to live with it?

i know that there is a vista tweak to change the no of seconds given to vista to shut down..default is 20 if im nt wrong. might try that out and see if that works

You should go to the device driver area and re-configure the wireless card. In the space for 'allow computer to shut this device off to conserve power', you should turn that on. I believe that is is usually on by default, so if it is turned on, I would consider re-installing the driver as a solution.

Bearing that, I would take the advice given so far and try manually switching off the WiFi switch. If you can then sleep and wake up, that would point to the WiFi as the definite source of the problem.

What laptop do you have? Do you have the latest Dell drivers installed?
