*facepalm*
As you install more applications and use your computer more, boot time will get slower. Just make sure to maintain your pc on a regular basis to try and keep the boot as fast as possible. Also, your new applications you installed probably added startup entries which can add time to bootup. If you haven't installed any new apps, I recommend defragging and cleaning out junk files. -
Yeah but I had plenty programs and softs on my laptop and everything was fine startup was always quick and now rubbish ...
those bloody hotfixes and stupid microsoft updates doing this ... I suppose ..
I disabled couple startup programs in msconfig but still welcome rolling and rolling
horrible I cant defrag 'cos am using SSD ... -
Format C:\

What do you mean you can't defrag?

Defragging is a useless activity with ssds as they contain something called 'wear levelling technology'. Its a long explanation but, briefly....
Fragmentation of a hard disk occurs when an arm grabs or stores data onto a magnetic disk at a very high rate of speed (7200rpm). This does not occur with an ssd because information is stored within memory modules (or cells) and its placement within is moot because of the retrieval system within the ssd. Simply, it is like a library where you find something from an index and then go to get it. There is no need to wait for the information to present itself such as a hard drive. This is why there is extremely little fragmentation and no need to optimize or place information at a certain spot on the disk.
Also, ssds have something called 'wear levelling technology' which means the information is actually moved around from location to location within the ssd without your knowledge. This is done to ensure all cells within the ssd wear equally, thus giving the ssd a much longer life.
In essence, the ssd defragments on its own and behind the scenes...
Hope this helps...its as laymen as I can get.
EDIT: Here is a portion of an intel article that speaks of wear levelling technology. It will just help a bit with the understanding.
Besides higher cost, there are other tradeoffs with solid-state drives. Flash memory cells wear out over time, and this problem is more serious with multi-level cell flash chips. To get around this problem, drive makers use wear-levelling technology that relies on an algorithm that spreads write cycles evenly across all of the chip's memory cells. This prevents some cells from wearing out before others and extends the life of solid-state drives -
It's not like a defrag will help your performance anyways.
It would help if you listed your startup programs. Otherwise we are just grasping at straws. -
without a comprehensive description of exactly what you've done to your laptop over the previous weeks, it is impossible for anyone to give you meaningful advice.
of course, if you have kept a log of changes made, it would be simple for you yourself to 'go back in time' and reverse those changes. -
I suggest you try System Mechanic from Iolo,it helps computer maintains its stability

What SSD are you using, and does it support TRIM? Have you checked for a firmware update to your SSD to support compatibility with Windows 7 TRIM?

I have the same behavior on my laptop. It started sitting at the Welcome screen for 1-3 minutes about 2 weeks ago (I've had RC1 installed since it was released). I'm not sure what the cause of the problem is, but I'm hoping it goes away with a reformat.
EDIT: I've read around that sometimes this is related to bad chipset drivers. Make sure that you install the chipset drivers for your laptop/desktop from the manufacturer's website. It seems that if Windows tries to update the driver and does a bad job, you'll get the extended login screen.
