I run a small business with a network in the office. I am looking to have the capabilities to remotely connect to my office network with my notebook. I am seriously considering buying the Dell Latitude 610 and am curious if I should buy it with XP or Vista. All of the computers on my office network run XP, but with Dell stopping selling XP on the 18th, I am worried that I will be stuck with an OS that will soon lose popular business support. I have a Dell m1330 that I use personally, which runs Vista and can connect to the network without a problem. Should I purchase a notebook packaged with XP or Vista? Thank you.

For your situation XP seems to be the better choice.

try bringing your vista machine to work for a day and make sure that all the tasks you would want to preform it can do. if it can do all of them, I would go with the new OS.

XP is definitely the old OS, but why I think you should use Vista? Because is much more secure than XP, and increased security makes even more sense while accessing your laptop remotely.

When you buy a Latitude, you can actually have the best of both worlds. XP since your comfortable with it and Vista Business (or Ultimate) when your ready.
You don't have to worry about the June 18 deadline, just choose the "Genuine Windows Vista® Business (or Ultimate, your choice) Bonus-Windows® XP Professional loaded" option in the Dell configurator.
You'll get XP Pro preinstalled as well as OS and Driver disks for both Vista and XP. Dell will provide support for both OS's as well. I would seriously consider this option... -
Yes. Or even if you choose to get Vista Business preinstalled, you'll still have XP downgrade rights, even after the June 18 "deadline".
Latitude 610? That's ancient. Do you mean the D630?
Anyway, since you've tested Vista on your network and have no problems with it... I'd probably just go with Vista. Maybe that's just because I like it though. Up to you really. But if you get Vista then get Vista Business so you can downgrade if necessary. -
Vista business is appropriate for a business use. It lacks some of the home and Ultimate entertainment things like media center, which is alright because the laptop is for business, right
Small buisness notebook XP v. Vista
