I'm looking for software (preferbly free) that allows me to set settings for how to charge my battery. Settings as in "charge to what percentage" and such.

    Thanks,
    Michael

AFAIK, I don't think there is such a thing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would like that program.

I think it would be more of a BIOS related thing, as how would the program run when the computers off?

Why would you purposely want to undercharge your battery?

It will just shorten its life.

So that I can keep the ac plugged in with the battery in my computer but keep it a 50% charged to prolong the life.

But why would you want to do that?

Because it is said that to prolong the battery life of a notebook you should charge the battery to 40%, put it in a zip lock bag, and put it in a fridge.

But while its on the computer I see no point, its basically your UPS, keep it fully charged in case the power goes out.

thinkpads include a "smart" power manager that describe exactly what you want. I'm sure you can download the utility, but I dont know if it will be compatible with your system. you can give it a shot though.

"thinkpad power manager" is what you are looking for.
