I have had this problem before and the only way I solved it is by reformatting and re-installing windows.

When I start SmarFTP it refuses to connect to my hosts ftp server. It's not my router as far as I can tell.

SmartFTP is returning the error message with lightning speed indicating to me that the problem is with my notebook.

I have tried 2 other ftp clients with no success.

I have verified the server is working fine - the login details are correct.

I am running Vista 32bit Business,
    Windows Firewall Disabled.
    Windows Defender Disabled.
ZoneAlerm Free Edition - does not connect with this enabled or shutdown.
    Avg 7.0 Free Edition.

I have carried out some tweaks which maybe the cause of the problem pretty much all are from the Vista Tips and Tweak thread stickied at the top of the Windows and Software forum including the services tweak at the blackviper site.

Like I said earlier I had this before and could not solve so I had to wipe my machine and I do not wish to do that again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
