I'm going to try reinstalling windows 7 because I'm having some problems... should I create a disk to do so and boot from it? or will a virtual drive do the same?

I use a USB key but a DVD would work just as well.

I couldn't get my USB drive to install 64-bit Windows 7. It's not booting even I set to boot from USB drive in BIOS.

you have to specially format the usb drive to be bootable.

    it's simple. here the diskpart.

then copy the files over and boot from it. works for me all the time, 32bit and 64bit.

I copied the dvd content directly to my flashdrive without prior "formatting" and it still installed Windows 7 perfectly fine.

yes it may, but doing it that way (creating a primary, active partition) makes sure it boots everywhere.

it depends on the bios if it wants to boot from it, or not. that way, you make sure it boots. (quite sure at least. there is even a fix one further if it still wouldn't. but i can't find it right now :))

I tried all different ways to create a bootable USB, but still it wouldn't boot to install 64 bit Windows 7. It's all set in the BIOS too. My BIOS has two enties like USB flash drive and External USB drive. May be I will change them and see.

I just threw the approx. 8 items I think it was which included files and folders on a DVD. Used Roxio to burn them on as a Data disc.
