is it just a marketing scam?
i tried out the trial of Spyware Doctor (btw i have Registry Mechanic that works great), and it detects some registry issue with caishow or something, and says that "it is known to cause pop-ups in IE". I haven't experienced any symptom of any spyware, and 5 free anti-spyware scans the computer as clean, so i have to think that Spyware Doctor's trial may be a marketing tool, as it "finds" a spyware threat, and in order to clean it i must purchase the software
is this something to worry about, and do you believe it may be a marketing tool?

Personally, unless you're experiencing a problem I'd say scam. What other services (the free ones) are you using?
-
i am not experiencing any problems, but the reason i have doubts is that i also use Registry Mechanic, which works well and is related to Spyware Doctor.
Spyware Doctor detected an alert regarding the registry, which Defender, Spybot, Adaware, AVG didnt detect -
Do you know what the alert was? The problem with things like that is that they're trying to sell you the software. Of COURSE they want to find something wrong with your computer... then you need to buy it to fix it, right? And many times, it's just cookie or something else that they flag as suspicious, but all the other systems that AREN'T trying to get your money know is fine.

the alert was related to a registry entry.
"Caishow is a Chinese application that may display pop-up advertisements Symptoms"
i haven't had any pop up symptoms
as I said, I Use registry mechanic, trusty software, so i would also like to think Spyware Doctor would be the same.
So [paid] anti-spyware detects something 5 free anti-spyware misses
